How come I can't sync videos on to my first generation ipod touch?

I just bought a movie on itunes. It works fine on my computer but I can't seem to get it to go on to my ipod. The file is compatible with itunes and I already updated the itunes software so it should work.... Help?How come I can't sync videos on to my first generation ipod touch?
Not all iTunes video can be transferred to iPod, please make sure your video is compatible with iPod. If the video resolution or video bitrate beyond iPod limitation, even though they are mp4 video, you can't upload them to iPod. For example, some iTunes purchased movie are High definition movie, the resolution is too high to play on iPod, you can't sync it to your iPod.How come I can't sync videos on to my first generation ipod touch?
