How can I use my WD MyBook external hard drive without the software going nuts?

I've done everything. Formatted the drive. Etc. Yet for some reason I can't just use my Western Digital MyBook as a simple hard drive! It has this compulsive need to back my **** up, which I don't want it doing. And now it won't let me access it from my linux computer.
