PluckandPlayGuitar has free video based lessons for absolute beginners and assume you know nothing or close to nothing.
It takes you step by step through the basic guitar chords one by one. There's also lessons on guitar scales, techniques and some easy songs to play.

Hi,Look for a tutor called 'Bert Weedons Play In A day'.It may be out of print, but you should get one cheap enough on eBay.It is very easy to understand, and you should be able to soon play something. All the best Kevin

I've been playing guitar for about 18 months now, and bought my first electric 2 months ago. For the first year I learned everything from this site. It's brilliant, and the awesome guy teaches you it the perfect way. From beginner to B.B. King.
The one I use(d) is iJamplay.com. In particular, Steve Elberg's Beginner Lesson series for starters. I think Jamorama is pretty good too.
