How to fix computer crash?

My daughters computer crashed last night. don't know if she got a virus from a download or what , but now when you start it up, even when we try in safe mode, all you get is a black screen that wants to ask if if you want to start up. does this over and over. Last night when we initially started it up, it said there was a fatal error on one of the discs and needed to clean it, after it completed that we saw a brief screen that read ';dumping memory';. So now what does she do? Can she repair this just by putting in her Windows Vista disc and re-installing ?How to fix computer crash?
Start in Safe-Mode with less benefits. Try unplugging or disabling the internet first to see if the virus reacts to internet connection. If so then now we know its an internet based virus. If you get the chance, plug in the internet and download Spyware Doctor and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. If you cant connect to internet or it crashes before install finishes, try getting the program setup files on a removable disk and installing them directly onto the computer without downloaing. Once the program Spyware Doctor is installed, run the ';Intelli-Scan'; it will find your virus. After that, run the Malwarebytes quick scan. If it finds something, then that is probably your problem. If not, focus on Spyware Doctor. There should be a little + sign underneath the virus title. click on it and you'll see the Registry Key that the virus is using to perform it's evil deeds on your computer. This key is the directory that you need to find the virus key to delete the virus. You cannot search for the virus in the windows search engine, so don't try. Ok so now you want to go to Start -%26gt; Run -%26gt; Type in ';Regedit';. Now the hard part. On the left side of the screen that pop-up should be the folders (e.g. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE). Follow the designated path that Spyware Doctor tells you the virus is. The Regedit has no search engine, so you have to do it manually. Find the EXACT file/folder containing the Malicious Items, and delete it. Voila. No more virus.

NOTE: DO NOT DELETE A REGISTRY KEY/FILE UNECCESSARILY. DELETION OF THE WRONG FILE WILL DESTROY YOUR COMPUTER!!!!!
